Is Crate right for a Services business?

Crate is used by Services businesses to sell from one catalogue across their own online store, Instagram, WhatsApp and the counter. A Services business on Crate lists each product once, with its variants, its photos, its stock and its price in the merchant's own currency, USD or NGN, and every channel then sells that same record. Orders from all of those channels arrive in one Crate queue and stock is drawn down once, so a sale in a chat cannot oversell what is on the shelf. Crate takes the payment methods of the merchant's own market, USSD and pay on delivery included where they apply, and pays out to the business's own bank account. Crate is run from a phone.

The situation this is built for

Where you are now

None of this is unusual. It is what selling in more than one place looks like before there is one system underneath it.

Your calendar and your money are two systems

The booking sits in one place and the payment sits in another, so reconciling them is a job you do every week and never finish. A booking and its payment share one record here, which means the question of who has paid for what is answered by looking rather than by adding up.

No-shows cost you the slot and the fee

A slot held on a promise is a slot you could not sell to anybody else, and you carry the whole loss when nobody arrives. Taking payment by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or bank transfer at the moment the booking is made moves that risk, and the money is matched to the booking automatically.

You are the only record of what was agreed

What was booked, what was paid and what was promised lives in your head and in a chat thread, which works until you are away or somebody else answers. A client record holds all three where the staff you have given access to can see them, with notes and the full history attached.

Services questions

Can customers book online?

Yes. A service is listed like any other product, with its own price and description, and a customer books and pays for it from your own store or in a chat thread. The booking lands in the same queue as every other order, tagged with the channel it came from.

Can I take payment when they book?

Yes. Customers pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and bank transfer, and the money is confirmed on the spot and matched to the booking, so the slot is paid for before it is held. You get an alert the moment it lands, and a refund goes out from the booking itself if you need to cancel.

Do I keep a record of my clients?

Yes. A client record is created from the first booking with that booking already attached, and it builds up the full history of what they have booked and spent. Notes and tags hold a preference or a promise you made, and the list is yours to export.

Do I need my own website?

No. A branded store on your own domain is part of Crate, and you can add the pages a service business needs, like what is included, how cancellations work or where you are based, and put them in the navigation yourself without touching any code.

Can I sell a package of several sessions?

Yes. A block of sessions can be sold as its own product at its own price, and a service that renews can be sold as a subscription so it bills again without you chasing it. Both sit in the same catalog and on the same customer record as everything else.

Can staff see bookings but not the money?

Yes. Each person you invite gets their own login and only the permissions you grant, so someone can work the bookings and the client notes while payouts, bank details and settings stay with you. Access is attributable to a person and ends the moment you revoke it.

Still have a question?

Every answer above was written by the people who build crate. If yours is not among them, the Help Center goes deeper, and a person reads what you send.
