Where do I get the Crate logo, and how should I use it?
The files are on this page and they are free to use when you are referring to Crate: the mark as an SVG for anything on screen, PNG cuts at 192 and 512 pixels for surfaces that will not take vector artwork, and a square opaque cut for directory listings that require one. The mark is a drawn arc inside a rounded square, not a letter in a typeface, so please place the file rather than setting the shape yourself. Keep clear space around it equal to a quarter of its width, never render it below 24 pixels, and do not recolour, rotate, stretch or add effects to it. The name is written crate, in lower case, and it is never abbreviated.
Download the mark
These are the exact files Crate's own surfaces use. Nothing here is a special press cut that will drift out of date.
- Mark, SVG Vector, scales to any size. Use this anywhere the surface accepts SVG.
- Mark, PNG 512 For surfaces that will not take vector artwork. Transparent corners.
- Mark, PNG 192 The small raster cut, for a listing thumbnail or an app tile.
- Square, opaque Opaque square with no transparency, for directories and structured data that reject a transparent tile.
- Favicon Three sizes in one file, for anybody embedding Crate in a browser chrome mock.
- Social card The default sharing image. Use it as an illustration of Crate, not as a logo.
Right click and save, or use the paths directly. They are stable absolute paths rather than fingerprinted asset URLs, so a link you write today keeps working after the artwork is regenerated.
What it is, exactly
Written down so that a surface that cannot place the file can still draw it correctly.
The construction
A rounded square, 512 by 512, with a corner radius of 114.5, which is 22.36 per cent of the box. The ratio matters more than the number: at any size, the radius is the width multiplied by 0.2236. A generic large radius reads as a different mark.
The ground is a linear gradient running from the top left corner to the bottom right, from amber at the start to a deeper burnt amber at the end. The values are in the table below.
Inside it is a white arc: 298 degrees of a circle, with the 62 degree gap on the right, drawn at a radius of 126.98 with a stroke of 63.5 and round caps. It is a drawn arc, not a letter set in a typeface. A font's capital C has a different terminal angle, a different aperture and a different stroke modulation, and it changes with whatever font stack the surface happens to have.
The mono cut
Where the amber square fights the surface, use the arc on its own in a single colour, with no ground: on a dark background, in one colour print, and in an interface that tints its icons. The shape is identical, the square is simply absent.
The wordmark
The lockup is the mark beside the word crate as live text, at a heavy weight with slightly tightened tracking and a gap of about six tenths of the mark's height between them. There is deliberately no outlined letterform file committed, because real text stays crisp at every size, stays selectable and stays legible to a screen reader.
If you need the word as vector outlines for print, ask us and we will outline it from the live lockup rather than send you letterforms nobody has approved.
The values
The mark's own two colours are fixed and are never themed. The accent below them is the one Crate's own marketing surfaces use, and it is included so an external page can sit beside ours without guessing.

The rules, and they are short
Everything here exists because it has gone wrong somewhere, usually on our own surfaces first.
- Clear space
- Rule Keep space around the mark equal to at least a quarter of its width on every side, free of type, rules and other logos.
- Minimum size
- Rule Never below 24 pixels on screen, or 6 millimetres in print. Below that the arc's gap closes up and the mark reads as a solid ring.
- Place the file
- Rule Use the artwork on this page. Do not set the shape in a typeface, trace it, or rebuild it from this description unless you have no other option.
- Do not recolour
- Rule The gradient and the white arc are fixed. If the amber square does not work on your surface, use the single colour arc instead of inventing a colour.
- Do not distort
- Rule No stretching, no rotation, no skew, no drop shadows, no outlines, no gradients of your own, and no placing it inside another shape.
- Do not lock it up with your own mark
- Rule Do not combine the Crate mark with another logo into a single unit. Set them side by side with clear space, which says partnership rather than merger.
- Write the name in lower case
- Rule crate, in lower case, in running text. Not CRATE, not Crate Inc, and not abbreviated to an initial.
- Say what the relationship is
- Rule Describe an integration or a listing accurately. Built on Crate, works with Crate and available on Crate are all fine. Official, certified, partnered and endorsed are claims that need a written agreement behind them.
Something you need that is not here

Can I use the Crate logo on my website?
Yes, when you are referring to Crate: linking to us, saying your product works with Crate, or listing Crate among the tools you use. Use the artwork on this page unchanged, keep the clear space, and do not present the relationship as more official than it is.
Why is the logo not a letter C?
It is a drawn arc, and the difference is visible at any size. A capital C from a typeface carries that typeface's terminal angles, aperture and stroke modulation, and it changes with whatever font stack a surface happens to have. Seven Crate surfaces once each typeset their own C and no two matched.
Is there a version for dark backgrounds?
Yes. Use the arc on its own in a single colour, with no rounded square behind it, and let it take the colour of the surface it sits on. The shape is identical to the one inside the square, so nothing about the identity changes.
Can I change the colour to match my design?
No. The gradient and the white arc are fixed, and the mark has to survive being placed on somebody else's surface without becoming somebody else's mark. Where the amber square does not work, the single colour arc is the answer rather than a recolour.
Do you have a press page with company facts?
This is it. There is no separate press page, because a press page with no coverage on it advertises that there is none. The assets a journalist needs are here, and anything else you need for a piece you are writing is one email away.
How is the name written?
crate, in lower case, in running text, including at the start of a sentence where your house style allows it. It is not an acronym, so it is never set in capitals, and it is never abbreviated to an initial.
